Rubbish & Trash Guidelines

Recycling

Curbside recycling is offered in the cities of Pequot Lakes, Breezy Point, Crosslake, Nisswa, Brainerd, and Baxter. We provide a 65 gallon cart for recycling service.

Temporary Service

Both 10 and 15 yard roll-off dumpsters are available for all spring and fall clean-ups, moving clean-ups, remodel projects, or new construction.

Dumpsters

We have rear load containers for commercial and residential use ranging in size from 2 yards to 8 yards.

Dumpster enclosure/ concrete pad guidelines:

All enclosures should be 12 feet wide to allow ample room for dumpster. Pad sizes:

  • 2 yard, 10×5 pad
  • 4 yard, 10×10 pad
  • 6 yard,  10×12 pad
  • 8 yard, 10×14 pad

Cart Sizes

65 gallon: Holds five-six 13 gallon kitchen bags (for household of three or four)
95 gallon: Holds eight-nine 13 gallon kitchen bags (for household of five or more)

Prepaid Tag Service

The prepaid tag system (available in bundles of six or more) is ideal for those with unpredictable schedules. The price of a tag is determined by the size of the cart (provided upon request).

Directions

Please tie the tag to the top bag in your cart and pull it so it hangs out from the lid & container. The driver will see it and empty the entire cart without having to untie it from anything or get out of the automated truck. If there is no evidence of a tag when the driver arrives you will be charged for an untagged pick-up. Your driver will thank you a million times over for making your stop as enjoyable as possible!

Sorting Guidelines

The County landfill will NOT ACCEPT the following items mixed with solid waste:

Dirt, Tire, Batteries, Wet Paint Cans, Stain or Varnish Cans, Motor Oil, Oil Filters, Yard Waste, Ashes, Hazardous Chemicals, Fluorescent Bulbs, Cement, Automobile Parts, Heavy Steel, TVs, Computers, Electronics of any type, or Mattresses.

These items should be taken directly to the landfill by the consumer.

Please have all residential garbage bagged (this also helps to keep the container clean and odorless).

Cat Litter is heavy and may generate extra charges. CAT LITTER AND DOG FECES MUST BE BAGGED!

Please have fresh fish remains frozen, and place in cart the morning of pickup.
Please set cart out the night before pickup.

Solid Waste Municipal Tax is currently 9.75% for residential service and 17% for commercial service.

Single Sort Recycling Guidelines

Aluminum

Consists of pop and beer cans and a few types of small juice cans. No cigarette butts and please drain and crush the cans.

Tin

Consists of food cans and lids (flip top soup lids and cat food lids are not aluminum, they are tin). Cans must be rinsed out. Aerosol cans are not accepted.

Plastics

Includes all food and beverage containers that are entirely plastic. Plastics must be rinsed out (no peanut butter residue). Crushing large milk and juice jugs helps conserve space. Plastic toys and tupperware type containers are not acceptable. Look for recycling triangle on bottom.

Glass

This includes all bottles and food jars. Please rinse and drain. Broken glass, mirrors, light bulbs, drinking glasses and vases are not accepted.

Commercial Cardboard

Waxy or shiny boxes are now acceptable. Large pieces should be cut down to fit into the container or cut into 2’x3′ or smaller pieces, tied together and set on top of the container.

Residential Paper Products

This includes all newspaper, cardboard, boxes, inserts, magazines and plain office paper. Phone books and food boxes are also welcome! We prefer you put paper in a brown paper bag instead of the plastic bags. Large pieces of cardboard should be cut down to fit into the container or cut into 2’x3′ or smaller pieces, tied together and set on top of the container.

PLASTIC BAGS AND STYROFOAM ARE CONSIDERED GARBAGE.

Anything big should be taken by consumer to recycling center.
